Tips for Treating Poison Ivy

Prevention is the MOST effective treatment, however.....when exposed:

1.  Avoid touching the affected areas then touching other parts of your body.

2.  If exposed rinse with cold water or rubbing alcohol as soon as you can to remove oils from the offending plant.

3.  You can use an over the counter lotion, Tecnu to remove the oils for up to 24 hours after contact.

4.  To reduce the itching run hot water over the affected area until the itching subsides, be careful  not to burn yourself!

5.  Calamine lotion or Aloe Vera gel can reduce the itching.

6.  Apply Witch Hazel to blisters if they form.

If areas of the face are involved or these simple measures are ineffective see your healthcare provider.
