Do the Dew

Putting the caffeine and added chemicals problems aside, look at the sugars in the soda we drink.

According to the 2005 Dietary Guidelines for Americans, it's recommended that no more than 8 teaspoons/day of added sugar based on a 2,000 calories/day diet. There are about 4.2 grams of white granulated sugar in a teaspoon. So that comes out to be 33.6 grams if you’re reading labels. And that accounts for about 6% of your total calories for the day. Now we all know that sugar is added to lots of products. So let's just look at one...

One 12 oz. can of Mountain Dew has 47 grams of sugar in it. Whoops! You are already way over your daily allotment.
